Wouda Pumping Station

The Wouda pumping station is located in Lemmer, which is known as the gateway to Friesland. The Wouda pumping station is the largest functioning steam pumping station in the world. It dates from 1920 and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage- List since 1998. The pumping station is still in use today and ensures that the residents of Friesland keep their feet dry when the water levels are too high.

Young and old can have fun and educational experience here. In addition to the operation of the pumping station, attention is also paid to current climate change and water management during the interactive exhibition. Children can participate in a treasure hunt or be trained as an assistent engineer. They can also do puzzles and gain VR experience of the Woudagemaal!

Winter or summer? Does not matter! The UNESCO World Hertiage Site and its visitor center are open all year round.
