Wouda pumping station
The Woudagemaal is located in Lemmer, which is known as the gateway to Friesland. The Wouda pumping station is the largest still functioning steam pumping station in the world. It dates back to 1920 and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998. The pumping station is still in use today and ensures that the residents of Friesland keep their feet dry in case of high water levels.
Young and old can have a fun and educational experience here. In addition to learning about the operation of the pumping station, there is also a focus on current climate change and water management during the interactive exhibition. Children can participate in a treasure hunt or train to become assistant operators. They can also solve puzzles and have a VR experience of the Wouda Pumping Station!
Winter or summer? It doesn't matter! The UNESCO World Heritage site and its visitor center are open all year round.
