Green Key

Green Key

Since October 2015, we have been allowed to carry the Green Key certification. This is the certification for environmentally friendly businesses in the tourism and recreation industry and is increasingly becoming a symbol by which quality businesses can be recognized.

Terms and conditions

In a restaurant with a Green Key certificate, the environment is consciously taken into account. The certification guarantees guests a comfortable stay with care for the surroundings. This way, we like to show that we are consciously working to reduce waste, water, and energy consumption in order to lessen the impact on the environment.

Green Key certification

Worldwide, more than 1600 companies in 18 countries are affiliated with the international certification mark Green Key is the international quality mark for companies in the tourism and recreation industry, as well as in the market for meeting and conference venues, that are seriously and verifiably engaged in sustainability, also known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with care for the environment on the premises and the nature in their surroundings.

As a Green Key accommodation, we are recognizable by the Green Key plaque at the main entrance of our accommodation. On the plaque, you will see the Green Key logo with the year and the level "gold" that our accommodation meets.

Our level

In order to qualify for the Green Key certificate, many measures related to environmental management and CSR need to be taken. These measures are partly mandatory and partly optional. Green Key Netherlands has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The more optional measures a business completes, the higher the final score. Van der Valk Hotel Hardegarijp - Leeuwarden has been awarded a Gold certificate.

Green Key guarantees the voluntary commitment of the entrepreneur to do more for the environment than what is required by law and regulations. Green Key is a means to communicate the sustainable image of the company to guests, authorities, and business partners.
